home as I know it
As the windows were closing
And the lights dimmed out
The wind swept through the living-room for the last time
And the curtains swinging north
The dogs barked our song one more time
And the dust went sideways as I drove my car from the driveway
I look back over my shoulder
To what you build, a home to many,
A home to you, and me
Is not our home anymore,
But four empty walls
With memories living inside
But quietly time does what time does
And memories are getting quieter and quieter
As I look out the window
To our old road
Our old home
And home as I know it
Is not home anymore
But home I have inside me
As I let go
Of what I once thought
Was going to last forever
Is living now
Forever inside of me.
As the windows were closing
And the lights dimmed out
The wind swept through the living-room for the last time
And the curtains swinging north
The dogs barked our song one more time
And the dust went sideways as I drove my car from the driveway
I look back over my shoulder
To what you build, a home to many,
A home to you, and me
Is not our home anymore,
But four empty walls
With memories living inside
But quietly time does what time does
And memories are getting quieter and quieter
As I look out the window
To our old road
Our old home
And home as I know it
Is not home anymore
But home I have inside me
As I let go
Of what I once thought
Was going to last forever
Is living now
Forever inside of me
