I walk barefoot

Like you taught me to

On the tiles that you once lay with your bare hands only for us to walk upon

Through the grass, that grows higher every year

I walk barefoot

Upon the fertile earth you poured your heart into

The scent of fresh rosemary and anis is filling my lungs

And I know

You are close

I walk barefoot

Across the yard and lay underneath branches of roses that you planted in the ground

I walk barefoot

Next to the purple coloured flowers

Whose name I have forgotten

But you told me many times

I walk barefoot

Upon the cold floor in our old living room

And I still see you

In your yellow butterfly dress

Dancing to Abba

Like nothing bad had ever happened

I walk barefoot

And I am wondering

Did you have a happy life?

I asked

But it was your journey here on earth

Is what you said to me

`you mustn’t weep, my child

For I chose this life

And even though it may seem

I took on a load to carry

I did have a happy life

Because look at what I made

I made you

And your fellow sisters

And what else I need to do?

That my duty is done

And I had a happy life`
